Margaret McKay died peacefully on December 12, 2025, at the age of 100 years and nine months. In recent times she spoke often of wanting to go ‘home’, and now she has.
Margaret was born in Winnipeg and lived here for most of her life. Her vocation was a teacher-librarian, primarily at Elmwood High School in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Ruby Hall, and her sisters, Dorothy Robertson and Barbara DuVal.
She is survived by her cousin Will Guthrie of Galliano Island, BC.; five nephews and a niece; and eleven great-nephews and great-nieces, as well as their partners and children.
Margaret’s final years were spent at Vista Park Lodge in Winnipeg, where her inimitable sense of humour was appreciated by all who met her. Margaret’s family is deeply grateful for the care she received from all members of the staff. They laughed with her, held her hand, and made her feel a valued and respected member of the community.
No formal service will be held.

Margaret opened the library to us at all hours so that students like myself had a quiet place to go and study. I think she was a woman of faith in God. She must have prayed over the students who assembled under her care. I am thankfull for her efforts as some of us who assembled there are now Christians and have asked ourselves the question " who prayed for us?" She will be " home" at last and rewarded. Till we see you again! - Posted by: Filomena Pallone (Student) on: Dec 21, 2025
